People just need to feel good. They need relief from their pain. They want comfort from their worries, tension, and stress in their life. And they want to know that you care. If you take away someone's pain or stress, they are so grateful. I realized that smiling isn't just a part of making people look good. Smiling is Mother Nature's free facelift, it is the most attractive thing we do to our faces. Yet a smile is so much more. Smiling has the ability to make us feel good. Smiling releases our tension, and the tension of those around us.
I now know it is my duty and responsibility to share my smile and bring out the smile in my patients, in my team, and in everyone I meet. When I am being the artist-surgeon, I consummate this role by showing my smile while creating and displaying my craft. Then patients really know that they are getting my full attention inspiration, and creativity. To help patients get their best outcomes, feel good about themselves, and build their confidence, I needed to make them smile. And the best way to get someone to smile is to smile at them myself!
